Silver for Jessie Kampman in Long Beach OCR 2026
Jessie Kampman takes silver in Long Beach after dominant qualification series.
Jessie Kampman claimed silver at the Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta 2026 after an impressive week of racing on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic waters.
The Dutch Formula Kite rider dominated the qualification series, finishing top of the standings and earning a direct place in the Medal Series final. After weeks of preparation in California, Kampman delivered a strong performance when it mattered, confirming her place among the leading riders on the Olympic course.
Kampman entered the final as the clear favourite after her commanding performance in the opening stages of the regatta. In the first final race, however, she was involved in a port-starboard incident that was ruled against her, forcing a decisive extra race.
Kampman made a strong start to that final race and took the lead. Her hopes of taking the overall victory were ultimately ended when a piece of plastic became caught on her foil, causing her to fall from her board.
That incident allowed her French rival Lauriane Nolot to take the win and the overall title, while Kampman secured silver. Switzerland’s Elena Lengwiler completed the podium.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on gold, Kampman can look back on a highly convincing week in Long Beach. Her dominant qualification series and another Medal Series appearance underline her consistency at the highest level and provide valuable momentum on the road to LA28.
“We had a really good week,” Kampman said. “We’ve been here for almost a month, since 18 June, and during that time we’ve worked on many different aspects. This week, we were able to put all of that into practice. Casper and I are really happy with the progress we’ve made.”
Looking back on the regatta, Kampman was particularly pleased with the progress she and her team had made.
“I’m mainly very happy with how the week went. We’ve taken another step forward, reached another final, and that gives us a lot of confidence. The next one is ours.”
