Jessie Kampman Sets Her Sights on the Formula Kite World Championships in Cagliari
Kampman heads to Cagliari, Sardinia, with high ambitions for the 2025 Formula Kite World Championships
Jessie Kampman heads to Cagliari, Sardinia, with high ambitions for the 2025 Formula Kite World Championships. The Team Allianz rider will line up among the world’s best from September 30 to October 5, with a place on the podium firmly in her sights.
The World Championships represent the high point of the season for Kampman and an important benchmark on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
For Kampman, this year has been anything but straightforward. The 24-year-old underwent ankle surgery in March to have screws removed, followed by a period of rehabilitation. At the same time, she was waiting for her switch from the French national team to the Netherlands to become official, meaning she was unable to compete in international events for a period of time.
Her move to Team Allianz marked a new chapter in her career. With her Dutch background, Kampman became eligible to compete for the Netherlands and immediately embraced the team’s athlete-focused, coach-led and tailored approach.
The change paid off almost immediately. On her debut for Team Allianz, Kampman won the Olympic test event in Los Angeles, at the very venue that will host the 2028 Olympic Games.
Now, she is targeting another major result in Cagliari.
“Cagliari already feels like a familiar place to me. We’ve had several World Series events here, as well as a World Championship, so I know the water well,” Kampman says.
The conditions in Sardinia can be demanding, however. In particular, the strong offshore Mistral can make racing both challenging and unpredictable.
“The conditions can be very challenging, especially with the strong offshore Mistral. It can make the racing exciting and sometimes quite tricky. It really pushes both your equipment and your concentration to the limit.”
Despite the disrupted build-up to the season, Kampman arrives at the World Championships with a clear objective.
“My goal is clear: I want to finish on the podium. A top-three result would be a great achievement for me, especially in a year in which I have changed teams and come back from injury.”
There is, however, no lack of ambition behind that target.
“Of course, I dream of winning the whole event, but my main goal is to make the podium.”
For Kampman, Cagliari is therefore more than just another stop on the international kitefoil circuit. It is a major test of her form, consistency and resilience and another important step towards Los Angeles 2028.
